  1. Very unlikely. Mugs crack when their temperature rapidly changes (hot -> cold or cold -> hot). The hot liquid in the mug will do a great job of keeping the mug warm in spite of the cold air of the freezer.
Now, if you dumped out the hot beverage and then immediately filled it with ice water… that could cause it to crack.

  2. how thick is the cup? how dense is the ceramic? how long will it be left in the freezer? at what temp? generally, the answer is: oh yeah, it’ll break.

  3. ceramic mugs should tolerate the temperature differences without cracking if they are properly made. Whether they tolerate ice forming inside them, expanding as it does, depends on their shape. If the cup narrows towards the top and a lid of ice forms, then the lid may stop the new ice forming below expanding upwards, so it goes outwards and cracks the mug. Usually that does not happen, however, but you might select a straight sided mug or one that widens towards the top if you are concerned.

  4. Because it contains a hot beverage, the whole system goes from hot to cold together. I wouldn’t think that it would break.
Disclaimer, this is just my opinion, not scientifically rigourous fact and should be treated as such. If you have nice mugs, perhaps don’t use them here.
