  1. It tastes different and better because of how it’s made. Most instant coffee is just brewed coffee that has had the water removed under low heat and pressure (which lowers the boiling temperature and insures it does not burn the coffee.) Via is made with a mixture of this kind of instant coffee as well as coffee beans that have been microground, meaning ground so finely that they will dissolve in water as well as any traditionally made instant coffee. That makes a huge difference in the taste.

  2. Yes. I pack it in my laptop bag because the regular instant coffee in hotels is crap. Every once in a while I am at a corporate event where everyone is drinking the coffee swill and I’ll pull out a via and mix up a better tasting cup of coffee. And jealousy ensures.

  3. It is made somewhat differently than other instant coffees so for some it has a subjectively better taste. But, it is still instant coffee which, to my taste at least, is still execrable swill. I tried Via once and my only reaction was “…well, it tastes like instant coffee.”

  4. First, Via is made with Arabica beans which are much higher quality than the usual Robusta bean used by many other instant coffee manufacturers. The bean has a much smoother and richer flavor than normal and imparts a better taste to the starting product. Starbucks then takes this and adds a microground bean to the instant that will almost totally dissolve in hot or cold water. This holds much more fresh coffee flavor due to the natural oils it retains and adds a better mouth feel to the drink. The combination of the better coffee bean and the more natural coffee deterius in the cup from the bean makes for a more natural feeling and tasting coffee than the thin and off flavored Robusta instant that is normally produced.
