  1. It is a misconception shared by many people that drinking tea is a way to lose weight.
The hungry feeling after drinking tea is actually because the caffeine in tea leaves stimulates the secretion of stomach acid and accelerates the digestion of food, which is why we always feel hungry after drinking tea.
Drinking tea changes the process and feel of your digestion, but it cannot affect the result of your digestion.

Why does one feel hungry after having green tea?

(Caffeine promotes digestion in the body.)
There is a Chinese tea-table saying: “Sweet with green, sour with red (Balck tea is called “Red tea” in China), Kuaci (a common salty snack) with oolong”.
This saying is talking about the rule of pairing snacks with tea.

Why does one feel hungry after having green tea?

    (Tea and snacks pairing)
When drinking green tea , a sweet snack is a good match. Because the taste of green tea is fresh and bitter, with sweet snacks you can highlight the original taste of green tea.
When drinking black tea , you can pair it with sour snacks. Because black tea has a good Sweet-After-Taste effect , pairing it with sour snacks can produce a pleasant sweet and sour taste.

(For more information about the Sweet-After-Taste effect, you can read this article.)
When drinking oolong tea , try to pair it with some Kuaci. Because the taste of oolong tea is between black tea and green tea, it needs to be paired with salty snacks, which can minimize the possibility of the snacks affecting the original taste of the tea soup.
It is true that drinking tea can make people feel hungry, and it is also important to pair it with suitable snacks to offset the hunger and enhance the tea-drinking experience.
Next time you can also have a try.

  2. Drinking green tea (and from time to time black) for at least 45 years. Never ever have linked drinking of green tea with making me hungry. High carbs vegetarianism caused me to be constantly hungry, keto eliminated that. And have always been drinking green tea.

  3. I believe that green tea stimulates parts of the autonomic nervous system. You can see that in the fact that if taken in a large dose, it can make you break a sweat, get a little dizzy, and a little shaky. The vagus nerve is part of the autonomic nervous system, and it innervates the digestive organs, as well as all the other internal organs, and I think this may explain your hunger. If you are trying to use green tea to lose weight, just stop. Use green tea as a pleasant beverage and lose weight the old fashioned way by reducing carbs, increasing vegetables in the diet, and increasing exercise.

  4. Green tea speeds up your metabolism causing you to become hungry. I might be wrong but from what I hear, your body will burn the carbs and sugars first for energy, then when that supply is gone it dips into the fat reserves. If you would keep up with green tea habit, you must to take some supplements to support and counteract. So, choose your best way. Good Luck!!!

  5. That has not happened to me. Have you tried drinking Matcha?
When I drink Matcha I feel less anxious so in my case it makes me feel less hungry or eager to eat.
And there’s a reason behind it. Since Matcha is made with Tencha leaves which are shade-grown three weeks prior to harvest, they concentrate chlorophyll and the aminoacid L-theanine. It’s the latter the one responsible for helping you feel calmed, although alert, and help soothe anxiety.
    You should try it!

  8. Do you feel hungry after having green tea? I drink green tea several times a week and I have never had that experience before. Green tea has been the subject of many nutrition and health studies and all sorts of different claims have been made regarding it’s health promoting properties and it’s effects on metabolism. Green tea is only one of the many possible components in our diets, and it doesn’t have any significant tangible health benefits. Healthy lifestyle habits like exercise and a well-balanced diet impact our long-term health, not individual foods or beverages taken out of the context of overall diet and lifestyle.

  9. Green tea is rich in antioxidants which everyone knows.
Thus it speeds up your metabolism causing you to become hungry, it does the same for me. Here I believe that green tea stimulates parts of the autonomic nervous system. You can see that in the fact that if taken in a large dose, it can make you break a sweat, get a little dizzy, and a little shaky. It also helps maintain the body temperature and at the same time, it boosts your metabolism.

  10. There seems to be a lot of contradictory evidence out there on the impact of caffeine- I’ve read that until you have other health issues, caffeine can actually contribute to your weightloss plan by stimulating your metabolism. Some say it stimulates appetite while other say it acts as a short-term depressant. I think it probably gets back to each individual- if you regularly consume caffeine without the hunger, you might just be having a hungry day. I definitely get those! Or the caffeine might actually be to blame. I would log your intake of caffeine and your hunger levels and see if there is a persistent connection. I’ll occassionally have a diet mountain dew or iced coffee in the afternoon and haven’t noticed any impact on my appetite when I do.

Proper Storage Method for Green Teas
Tea should not stay in air for long time for being easily oxidized and deteriorated. Tea tradesmen pay lots of attention on tea’s storage. They usually use quick lime, charcoal and refrigerating methods for keeping tea leaves. However, we may don’t have those condition in families. We could use plastic bags or aluminum foil bags that can be well sealed. Push air out from the bags as much as you can after putting teas in. It could be helpful if you add another bag out of it, in order to protect it from light. Metal can, especially Tin can is the best for storage, which performs well in preventing moisture, anti-oxidization, blocking light and avoiding odor. Fridge can be useful, too. Because green tea is better stored in 0 ℃ to 5 ℃. You can pack the green teas in well-sealed aluminum foil bags or tin cans then put them in your fridge. It’s a good way for storage of green tea at home. If you had purchased some new spring teas of this year, and are not willing to drink them in the near future, you could use this for storage.
    Have a good health…!!!

  12. Green tea works in a very different way from other beverages. It doesn’t actually increase the amount of blood sugar in the blood stream, but it does speed up the process of converting blood glucose into a form of energy called glycogen. So the body’s process for storing energy, called the Glycogen Metabolic Pathway, is sped up. In other words, green tea speeds up your body’s ability to process carbohydrates. Since all carbohydrates other than sugar form the bonds of glycogen, this is what the body converts to when the blood sugar level is low. To put it simply, it takes the body’s energy reserves and converts them into a form of usable energy.
