  1. Hey Marge, an interesting question you got there. There are many reasons why coffee may suddenly start making you nauseous in the morning. It could be something as simple as drinking it on an empty stomach, or it could be a sign of a more severe issue like gastritis– or it can be another thing.
Here are several possibilities in your case:
If you’re used to drinking coffee first thing in the morning but suddenly start feeling nauseous, it could be because you’re not eating anything with it. Coffee is acidic and can irritate your stomach lining, so if you don’t have any food in there to buffer it, you may start feeling nauseous.
You could also be sensitive to caffeine. Caffeine can cause stomach upset and nausea in some people. If this is the case, switching to decaf coffee may help.
Another possibility is that you have gastritis, which is stomach lining inflammation. This can be caused by stress, certain medications, or an infection. If you have gastritis, coffee will worsen your symptoms, and you’ll probably feel nauseous every time you drink it.
One more possibility is that you have acid reflux. Acid reflux occurs when stomach acid rises into the esophagus. Coffee can make this worse by increasing stomach acid production. If you have acid reflux, try drinking coffee or avoiding it later in the day.
Lastly, something else may be causing your nausea in the morning, and coffee just happens to be making it worse. So you should consult your doctor.
Whichever it is, I hope that you can figure it out and take action on it immediately.

  2. First of all (and forgive the question), could you be pregnant ? If there is a chance of this, of course it might not be a problem – you know best about that. But pregnancy tends to exacerbate any reactions a woman has, and if you normally find coffee moderately stimulating it may now be that it’s just too much for your system. It’s particularly noticeable in the mornings.
Beyond that – there are folks who just can’t have coffee, full stop. It causes them intolerances that may manifest as hyperactivity, headaches, stomach upsets, nausea, vomiting, raised temperature or blood pressure and the list goes on. Sometimes these things creep up on you gradually. There is an answer that may be unwelcome; find an alternative .
Some people find lemon and ginger tea good as a “wakener” instead. Some prefer Redbush tea (rooibos). You’ll find your own solution if you try a good range of options. Good luck.
