  1. Coffee is a natural diuretic. So much like laxatives, it can cause discomfort in your stomach. The anxiety you’re experiencing could be that you have a sensitivity to caffeine. I used to have the same problem and I just kept drinking coffee until I overcame it. You could try decaffeinated coffee; it’ll give you the same flavor without the jitteryness. But if you are completely turned off from coffee, then stick with the tea.

  2. Coffee is higher in caffeine and is more acidic than tea, even in large amounts. Some don’t process caffeine well and other find the high acidity tough on the belly. If it bothers you, don’t drink it 🙂 Stick with a variety of herbal teas.

  3. If you do enjoy the taste of coffee, but have stomach discomfort from the acid, may I suggest that you try either cold-immersion or cold-drip brewed coffee. I have friends who are sensitive to acidic food and drink that have no problem drinking cold brewed coffee. There’s an abundance of how-to information available online, and very little in the way of expensive special equipment is required. You can even dilute the drink to your own taste and enjoy low-acid coffee hot or cold.

  4. There are about 400 components which are released into the water when brewing tea. Some of these components such as caffeine, are released in a more gradual gentle way in tea compared to coffee. Your stomach copes better with this gradual release instead of the one two punch of coffee.

  5. if the tea is caffeine free it might be that the caffeine is making you anxious and upsetting your stomach. Coffee tends to have higher concentration of caffeine depending on how its brewed and the type.
