  1. Bill Reid’s answer hits it. If anything, regular coffee drinkers are less likely to have hemorrhoids because regular caffeine users are less likely to be constipated, and should spend less time on the toilet (assuming they don’t get too engrossed in their phone or other reading material).

  2. Why does coffee cause hemorrhoids?
There is no evidence that coffee is a proximate cause if hemorrhoids.
There exists some speculation that caffeinated beverages may aggravate existing hemorrhoids by “drying” the stool with resulting constipation and increased discomfort. There is no actual evidence in support of such speculation, however. The concept that caffeinated beverages are dehydrating is false and arises from popular urban legend. The diuretic effect of caffeine does exist, of course, but it is not sufficient to overcome the hydrating effect of the water component of coffee.
Bottom line: Enjoy your coffee while suffering a hemorrhoid flare. Just don’t have a leisurely cup of it sitting on the commode. The seat functions as a virtual tourniquet for one’s rectal veins:)

  3. For some, the stimulant effects of caffeine activate the digestive system meaning an increase in trips to the bathroom. When bouts of diarrhea happen, this irritates hemorrhoids.
