Who is “they”?
When I was growing up “they” always served milk with cookies.
But coffee and cookies is a perfect combination.
They don’t. Cookies are often served with tea, milk, juice, or punch. I love coffee with my cookies though. It depends more on the beverage choice of the cookie consumer I believe.
Bear in mind, I brewed my own coffee from roasted beans, and I take it black.
Generally, single origin coffee doesn’t taste bitter, except if it’s dark roasted. but the general perception in people’s mind, coffee is bitter, so something sweet on the side is considered a good practice by most commercial cafes. The consumers like it sweet, because coffee is bitter, and they need to add more sweetness with snacks.
This does not apply for cafes that relies on single origins, most coffee snobs won’t even tolerate sugar in their cup. Most coffee snobs won’t need anything to add in their cup or on the side.
I’m one of those people who despise Starbucks and cringe if you put sugar in your coffee. Just joking, do whatever you want with your coffee, but don’t mess with mine 🙂
“They” don’t. As a matter of fact, more Americans eat doughnuts with coffee than cookies (maybe it’s coffee with doughnuts). The Brits have tea and biscuits (cookies), but not usually coffee. I have seen a number Germans have cookies with coffee, but not so much with the French. If you believe American marketing, more cookies are consumed with milk than any other beverage. Otherwise, to each his own.
