It really comes down to personal preference. It may also depend on one’s sensitivity to caffeine.
For those that don’t know, light roast coffee is light on flavor but high on caffeine because the roasting process hasn’t burned as much of the caffeine away. Dark roast is strong on flavor but relatively lower in caffeine, as this time it has been roasted out bit by bit. So if you’re like me and get the jitters after one or two cups, maybe go medium or dark.
Personally, I prefer my coffee to be deep and rich and I lean toward dark roasts like Italian roast or espresso roasts. French roast is usually a little too bitter and smokey for me, and others like Sumatra can be nice and dark but a little too earthy.
Some people prefer lighter brighter Citrus-y roasts that Latin American coffees tend to have which are usually light or medium roasts.
The only downside is that depending on what flavor creamer you use, it may clash or be overpowering for your coffee.
If…
Seeing that you use flavored creamer, I’m going to guess that you don’t actually care for the taste of coffee. So I think a light roast would be best.
That’s an interesting question. I would say a ‘bright’ coffee from East Africa, maybe even roasted a little dark, to cut through the flavor of the creamer.
But if you like the flavored creamer, you might want a more mellow, ‘smoother’ coffee that doesn’t interfere with it. That would be Brazil or Costa Rica, medium roast.
