Typically, in architectural and engineering terms, where the dominantly literary term has been seconded to refer to a beautiful simplicity of design, with no extraneous parts or complexity but excellence of execution.

  3. One of the cold filter coffee setups from Dutch-koffie.nl. They make cold drip coffee using an ice chilled reservoir at the top and drip freezing water in a true chromatography style onto your ground coffee.
This way it takes from 8-24 hrs to make a pot of coffee and caffeine content is upto twice that of regular coffee, but the taste is very much like a cold brewed espresso , if such a thing existed.

  4. An Italian company, Lavazza , has placed an Espresso machine into orbit, also they cooly named it: ISSpresso .

What is the most interesting coffee machine in the world?

    It’s a 20kg cube, a bit short of having a half-meter side.
To brew coffee in microgravity conditions isn’t at all a trivial endeavor. The ISSpresso had to be a heavy and complicated machine in order to comply with the safety requirement of space missions and still offer a good result.
The presence of a 20kg load was justified by the fact that the machine, other than coffee, can be used to make tea and rehydrate food.
The ISSpresso may come with a special cup that uses capillarity principles to simulate the earthly sipping.

The Chemex coffee maker is often regarded as one of the best-designed coffee makers; it’s exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art as a result. This is a coffee maker which you could proudly display as art.
A siphon pot is certainly one of the more entertaining the use, as it involves heating the water in a sealed lower chamber, then as the chamber cools it pulls the brewed coffee back from the upper chamber through a filter.
Personally I find the Ethiopian jebena to be the most fascinating. The way it is used breaks many accepted rules of coffee-brewing: the beans are roasted unevenly, they’re roughly and unevenly ground by hand, the water is boiled with the grounds – and then allowed to cool and boil again! And yet, this creates an incredible cup of coffee, managing to get wonderful flavor out of even the most mediocre beans.

  8. 1) Smarter Coffee Machine . Perhaps the fact that this coffee machine is “smart” and connects to the Internet and is controlled by an app? Maybe it’s the fact that Smart Coffee can start brewing a cup of coffee for me the moment I walk through the door. Maybe it’s the fact that I can adjust the strength of the coffee using my phone. I can’t decide but I’m in love with the idea of this machine. Finally, coffee and tech are together at last.

    2) Sur La Table Fellow Duo Coffee Steeper . Alright, so if you’re a coffee enthusiast there’s a good chance that you know how messy making a great cup of coffee can be with a French Press. Well there’s no need to throw every French Press out with the bath water (wow, that was a weird sentence): the Duo Coffee Steeper (which was funded on Kickstarter) is a cleaner and more convenient French Press and in my mind (though I’m yet to try it) that makes it the best French Press coffee maker. In three steps (brew, twist, pour) you’ll wind up with up to 4 cups of coffee brewed to whatever strength you like.

    3) Mr. Coffee Smart . Coffee machine maker Mr. Coffee has teamed up with WeMo (from Belkin) to produce it’s own smart coffee maker aptly called the Mr. Coffee Smart Coffeemaker. Like the Smarter Coffee, it’s app-controlled meaning you can brew some coffee from literally anywhere. You can also set a schedule, remotely monitor the status and get mobile notifications.

  9. My favourite for the most “interesting’ title would be this one – the original 1902 La Pavoni “Ideale” coffee machine, that is still on display today, at Caffe Reggio [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caffe_Reggio ] in Greenwich Village, New York. [1]

What is the most interesting coffee machine in the world?

OK, it probably made its last great espresso back in the 70’s, but it was the coffee machine that introduced the world to the concept of “espresso“ (Italian for “fast – made on the spur of the moment”) coffee, at the Milan Fair in 1906.
This particular machine introduced cappuccinos and espresso coffee to the USA in 1927 when Domenico Parisi, the original founder of Caffe Reggio, imported the first one from Italy.
Now while Angelo Moriondo in 1885 was the first to use both water and steam in the coffee making process, his coffee machine was developed purely as a bulk brewer for the Turin General Exposition. Apart from his patent, no verifiable evidence, by way of machine nor photograph, remains in existence today.
The La Pavoni “Ideale” was the handiwork of two entrepreneur/inventors, Luigi Bezzerra and Desiderio Pavoni, who made several improvements to Moriondo’s machine by introducing the portafilter and pressure release valves as well as incorporated multiple brewheads (spigots) that remain the hallmarks of espresso machine design even today. These improvements reduced coffee making from …

  10. I used a Chemex pot for a number of years and find it is really much like a larger version of the pour over units used in many coffee shops and it always made excellent coffee. Engineers at IIT back in 1958 called it “one of the best-designed products of modern times.” It is part of the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art.
I am also intrigued by the Neapolitan coffee pot, sometimes called a “flip pot”, but have never used one. There appear to be multiple YouTube videos on how to use it. I think I might be inclined to try to find the stainless steel version of this one. I use a Bialetti Moka pot myself which seems to be a bit easier to use.
I only recently made use of an ibrik I have had for years and which is used for Turkish coffee (the Turks actually call it a cezve) . It’s a long-handled copper pot, wide at the bottom and tapering to a flared top. Making coffee in one is pretty basic but it’s also real easy to make a mess of your stovetop if you aren’t careful with the process.
All very interesting coffee pots, all very different coffees.
