  1. I’ve tried quite a lot of beans in Beijing and I personally enjoy Rickshaw Roasters the best. The quality is pretty good and price is reasonable. I get their darkest roast the Super Blend, which is more like a medium dark roast.
Rickshaw Roasters can now deliver to any location. Their head roaster is a guy by the name of Andy and everything can be ordered and paid for directly on Wechat.

  2. If you want freshly roasted and carefully sourced beans, there is nothing better than Coffee Salon (咖啡沙龙) located on Yandaixiejie, which connects Di’anmen Wai Dajie and the bridge between Qianhai and Houhai. They’re at http://coffeesalon.com
Run by friendly coffee lovers, this shop roasts their own beans in microbatches—right there on the floor in the cafe or on the patio in some weather. They do a great job, though some batches are better than others. I would buy small amounts to use for a few days, as I lived nearby but lacked a grinder. A cheap French press can be obtained at the supermarket further south along Qianhai.
Prices are not low, but I felt they were fair given the generally high price of coffee in the city. It’s not quite on the level of the local Seattle roasters, or Chicago’s Intelligentsia or Metropolis, but I would say their freshly roasted beans compare favorably to even those top U.S. places if the coffee has been shipped and stored.
