I don’t mind instant coffee once in a while.
Nescafe Select and Nescafe Classic are a couple of ubiquitous instant coffee products available in several countries. Starbucks VIA is also being marketed aggressively is many countries. They are all comparable in taste.

P.S.: Coffee snobs will turn up their noses when they hear “instant coffee”. We should keep in mind that Tiramisu, that quintessential Italian dessert, contains instant coffee.
I think there’s no such a thing like the best instant coffee you can find everywhere. The closest you can get to that in Mexico is Nescafé (Nestlé). But I don’t know if they have it all around the world and is not that good. I think you have to look for it in every country. I prefer specialty coffee beans from Chiapas, Guerrero, Oaxaca and Veracruz. That makes an amazing cup of coffee. I suggest you try to find this kind of coffee in every country you visit (if available since there’s only a few countries in the coffee belt) and not the instant one.
For people who actually like (as opposed to “tolerate”) instant coffee, the question is hard to answer because the absolute cock-of-the-walk when it comes to instant coffee, is Nescafe. They make so many different house brands that you won’t find the same ones available in England, India, China and the USA. In the USA they walked away from selling “Nescafe” for years and only recently rebranded their own “Taster’s Choice” as “Taster’s Choice Nescafe”.
You’ll have to experiment with the local brands. If you’re in countries where the big supermarkets have their own house brands, I’ve found that those are also about the same level of quality. It’s all personal taste, really. I don’t prefer instant but I have a five-day-a-week caffeine jones I have to satisfy while getting my son ready for school. I don’t have the time to do the whole French Press process. Boiling water takes about sixty seconds and I’m off and running. I alternate between the Tesco’s (a Brit chain very prominent here) house brand and Nescafe Red Cup. “Red Cup” may be called something else where you are.
