France is not big on what we know in the US or in the UK as “cup” of coffee, we rather take an espresso, and it should be no more than 2 euros in most places.
French don’t drink big jugs of coffee generally, and if they do it will be a home made coffee, using a French or Italian press. Americano or café allongé are somehow common and would not be more expensive than the price of an espresso as coffee places like brasserie s don’t charge more for hot water.
The trick if you’re in France is to drink an espresso at the counter in the morning and gaze at the people surrounding you while sipping your petit noir.
