  1. A2A – quite frankly, your body knows what it needs, and if you eat healthily and sensibly most of the time, then a couple of days of being a bit naughty every month is fine! If you drink a lot of coffee, then why add withdrawal to your symptoms too and make yourself feel worse needlessly?
Personally I crave orange – the drink, the fruit, things in orange packets, you name it! But I also get an immunity drop and used to always get colds after my period, so my bidy is obviously saying to stock up.
Listen to your body rather than a book, we are all individuals, and your body knows what it needs. Unless its something really bad like a seventh cream cak…

  2. During menstruations you can drink whatever you drink on any other day. Unless you have painful periods you do not have to change your life by a dot. You can drink whatecer you want, eat whatever you want, play sports, dance, have (protected) sex, tend to animals and plants, etc. If you have painful periods you vill want to avoid what enhances the pain or, if you medicate the pain, whatever can interact with the medications.

  3. Uh… nothing can prolong bleeding, especially not any of the drinks you mentioned. The only thing that might affect it in any way is any anti-platelet medications, if you take any.
None of that other stuff affects menstrual bleeding. Caffeine is fine if you can handle it on a normal day… bleeding doesn’t change that suddenly or anything.
Drink on, although, maybe also focus on eating greens and protien. 25 glasses of water sounds like a lot and I worry that you might be overhydrated (yes it’s a real concern). Make sure you balance out your intake. If you’re spending every hour in the bathroom urinating, you’re overworking your kidneys a bit. I’m not saying you shouldn’t drink water. But you should eat as well.

  4. During menstruation you need to avoid taking any drink that is very hot or cold. This is because drinks metabolise faster than solids. Also it is not that you are a tank and what you pour from your mouth will reach the stomach as it is. The action of cold and hot drinks is not suitable during menstruation. Some hot drinks can cause a distress that leads to worsening of cramps. Cold drinks of the other hand cause contractions of the alimentary canal.
Drinks that you must avoid during periods
Tea – Caffeine has a diuretic action which is not very favorable for your. Along with that tea has stimulating affects that lead to aggravating pain.
Soft drinks – Aerated drinks can cause acidity and thus lead to bloating. The more the intestines expand the worse the reaction from uterus.
Alcohol – It is best to avoid alcohol when you are already in a hormone roller coaster.
Lemon juice – Lemon is a slightly strong juice with laxative effects. During periods some women have loose motions, lemon juice especially concentrated is not suitable at this time.
Pineapple juice – The menstruation inducing Pineapple has xylaine. This proteolytic enzyme isn’t suitable during menstruation when you have great options like chocolate and doughnuts!!!

  5. Only you can answer this question. Everyone’s body runs differently on different fuel. I too, become very thirsty but that makes sense. Probably water is best.
But you need to keep a diary. How is your menstrual cycle affected by sodas, green teas, caffeinated drinks and alcohol? Keep a running list of what your diet consists of and a chart of how it affected, or did not affect, your cycle. You may be surprised to discover what foods and drinks take their toll on your system. If you are seeking shortcuts, ask your female relatives for tips on what they have noticed about their periods. Because they share genes with you, they might be able to provide some insight.
Many women note that alcohol has a pronounced effect if overdone during the month and an absolutely toxic effect if taken during the menstrual period. Many women entering the menopausal phase discover they must swear off coffee. Some women claim Raspberry tea lessens the flow while others say not.
You have to discover these insights for yourself.
One thing is for certain, your menstrual cycle acts like a thermometer indicating how well you have been treating your body all month.

  6. Hi
So here are a few things that I found:
Avoid tea and coffee when on your period, It is said that caffeine increases the estrogen levels that may worsen the PMS symptoms.
Alcohol worsens PMS symptoms and also prolongs cramping, so you might want to skip your favourite drink while on your period.
Chamomile tea is known to ease cramps during periods.
Drinking plenty of water will help combat bloating and water retention, giving you some relief from your period cramps.
Primarily try to avoid a lot of sugary drinks.
Try avoiding packaged drinks as well. Try to consume sugar naturally from fruits.
I used this source for information where you can find more too.

Hope this helps answer your question.

  8. While the drink claim is correct for cramping, it’s incorrect for blood flow.
There really isn’t anything you can do without delving into hormonal birth control that can affect your blood flow during your period.
You might want to speak to your doctor or gynecologist about this.
    Good luck!

  9. It is preferable to avoid alcoholic drinks, soda and caffeine. More and more intake of water, fruit juice and herbal tea are of great help. You can also refer to Gynoveda – Solving Period Problems for more information on menstrual health.

  10. Thanks for the A2A.
How much you drink has little/no effect on how much you bleed during your cycle, unless you severely dehydrate yourself. What you drink will not prolong or extend your cycle either.
Since your issue is with how much you bleed, I’d suggest going ahead and drinking what you crave. You’ve listed two types of tea and also mentioned sodas. These often contain caffeine, which can affect your cramping but have little effect on your flow. Dairy, caffeine, salt, and alcohol can all make cramps worse. But again, nothing you drink or don’t drink is going to lighten your flow.
So drink whatever you want and look at these other options for reducing your flow:
    – Ironically, NSAIDs (aspirin, Aleve, Ibuprofen, Motrin) supposedly help reduce menstrual flow because they interfere with prostaglandins (hormones…

  11. You can drink whatever the hell you want during menstruation. It could be that your cramps get worse when you drink something very cold, but that won’t harm you, and you can find out and decide for yourself.
