  1. Irish coffee was invented for early trans-atlantic travellers caught in the Shannon fog so it might be best to try it there but it also goes down well in the warmer climes.
All depends on how it’s made and on it’s ingredients. Whilst alas, Guinness doesn’t travel too well, Jameson, Paddy or Powers seem to be natural travellers. Any decent cafe largo (americano) with two teaspoons of brown sugar and a generous dash of the aforementioned usice beatha would do for the base. The topping is the most difficult part. The double cream has to be whipped to a virtual standstill with there being just enough movement for it to flow over the back of a silver spoon pressed against the inside rim of the glass and rest afloat.
If you repeat the above instructions enough times whilst continuously sampling the produce you’ll be able to answer the question.

  2. Just one? Great, warming and boosting.
More than one. Jolly, Awake and asleep, drunk and more.
More than two. Tell a friend to watch out for you.

  3. I used to drink these with my housemate at the Rookwood Pottery restaurant in Cincinnati (which I notice is still in business) when we were in college. I seem to remember that you got both a buzz from the caffeine, but also a bit goofy from the alcohol. We never drank more than 2 of them, so we didn’t get to the extremes of either of those effects, which I suspect would be far less pleasant (and with some nasty sleep disruption as well, I bet).

  4. It feels very nice. The creaminess of it gIves a nice mouthfeel that sticks to your palate like velvet. The warmth of the coffee heats up your digestive tract and immediately takes away the chill of a winter night. While holding the cup in both hands, you feel them thawing out from the frost. The whiskey can be felt spreading throughout your system, dilating your blood vessels and bringing warmth to your extremities. After the third or fourth one, you will feel a bit dizzy and may start slurring as it becomes difficult to control your tongue.
