What do I do about the infuriating “static mess” I experience with my new burr coffee grinder? It makes me want to go back to a blade grinder! The charged grinds leap from the plastic container, en masse, like magic pixie dust, littering my counter!

I wish I knew. I have the same problem.
Grinding under more humidity or having more moist coffee beans would cut down on static, but it probably is not a good thing for the taste or stability of the coffee or the grind quality.
Check out whether the grinder can be electrically grounded in some way. Look for a way to connect to a large metal object or even earth to conduct away the electrical build up.
Time is on your side. Be very patient and grind then wait to deliver grounds.
Good answers so far. But did you ever wonder what the commercial coffee producers do with all that coffee dust?

When I first started using a burr coffee grinder, I experienced the very same frustrating mess – every time! I dealt with that for years, but coincidentally in the last month discovered the solution: a Zerostat anti-static gun! Just point, shoot (slowly), and bam! No static cling.
It isn’t cheap, but if you use it correctly, your clingy coffee grinds will finally be obedient and stop littering your kitchen counter. Enjoy!
A simple trick: when grinding your dose of coffee, just add 2-3 drops of water – static is GONE
