Depends on what you mean by bad. I’ve found that my worm farm devours used coffee grounds. I’m sure the worm inhabitants would be find with unused (but bad) coffee beans or ground coffee.
Grind it, put in an opened jar to absorb bad smells, use it as fertilizer, or even body scrub.
You make bad coffee or you throw them out. They make great fertilizer after they decay in the compost pile…
If you know that they are bad, my number one advice would be => Don’t use them for making coffee . But you already know that, so what can you do with them? Quite a few things, surprisingly.
Make art with coffee beans. In Moscow, a street artist has created a giant coffee mural with (presumably bad) coffee beans. While you probably won’t go to such greath lengths as Arkady Kim did, you can paste coffee beans on pieces of paper, cloth or clay. You can stitch them together to create sculptures or even paste them on body parts as makeup.
Feed them to the plants . Composting coffee grounds helps to add nitrogen to your compost pile and really improves your gardening. Another good option is to use them as fertiliser as they do attract earthworms. Notice two things though, you usually garden with used coffee beans so either run some water through them, or go to my next advice, and actually practice making coffee with them prior to gardening. Also, you can use organic used coffee filters for your compost. So, if you have some filters, throw them to your compost as well!
Experiment with creative brweing techniques – What a great time to practice new brewing methods. Not familiar with cold-brew, percolator, drip, chemex or whatnot? Why not use your old beans first to see how the process goes and everything works before using your new expensive coffee beans for the real deal?
Scrubbing and cleaning – Coarsly grinded coffee beans make a great addition to your cleaning stack. Together with some soap, they will make your kitchen counter top clean and shiny.
Organic Insect repellent – remember we said earthworms attract to wet coffee beans? Well, when your coffee beans are dry they actually repel ants. Spread them strategically and enjoy an ant-free summer 🙂

Bad odor vanishing – A great method to get rid of bad odor is to place some dry coffee beans in a half-open container and let it rest for a few days.
Throw them away or put in cloth satchel and use as air freshener in your car.
