They are both stimulants so you will notice a compounded effect. To a person in need of medication (attention disorders) adderall helps to stimulate the part of the brain that actual calms you down, allowing you to focus on your task(s) at hand. For someone who misuses the drug (plenty of people) you have a hyperactive state of mind that most people try to channel into studying or working on projects or whatever. Coffee has the same effect but to a much lesser extent, however when added together, you will notice the effects are more pronounced and can last longer. For some people it can be too much and actual prevent you from being able to focus on any one thing. Also the effects of stimulants on the body, like elevated heart rate and blood pressure, are also compounded.
I don’t recommend it!
Well of course as both are stimulants, they should synergize and produce more negative effects. I would be most concerned about the dual action upon the heart. A healthy person shouldn’t be too concerned but anyone with heart conditions would be at a higher risk for arrhythmia caused by an increase in circulating catecholamines (dopamine, adrenaline, noradrenaline)
A thing to note is that if the caffeine is in the form of coffee and it’s taken anywhere from 1 hour before or 3 hours after an oral dose of adderall, it is possible that the acidic nature of the coffee could severely delay absorption of adderall. Or even completely delay long enough that the d-amphetamine is excreted before it is absorbed. All amphetamines are extremely ph dependant when it comes to absorption and excretion.
Depends on the amount of caffeine.
I used to be on Adderall but I still drank soda and such. Because that’s not really much caffeine, nothing happened.
However, you might get an adverse reaction if you chug a whole pot of coffee while on Adderall. My guess is that if you do that on accident, your senses will be overstimulated and thus you would probably be extremely overwhelmed and have some sort of meltdown.
The two substances produce similar effects (despite working on different pathways) so the effects – and side-effects – of both drugs will be enhanced, possibly to an uncomfortable degree, most likely to an unpredictable one.
In other words your heart is likely to speed up more than it would do if you took either in isolation, and you’ll probably feel it. You’re likely to feel quite anxious – I wouldn’t recommend it! That being said, plenty of people do take both without any major ill effects but this is usually because they are healthy in the first place, they have started on lower doses of both, and may have built up gradually. I am now able to have a weak coffee with my meds but it has taken a few weeks for me to be able to tolerate both at once.
While it is not the best idea to take two stimulants at the same time, relatively small amounts of caffeine with Adderall can be safe in a healthy person. The reaction varies among people. Caffeine and Adderall taken together tend to have a synergistic effect, and possibly increase the magnitude of negative side effects of each other. Caffeine, as a diuretic, can also increase the rate of secretion of Adderall limiting its effectiveness. In my opinion, it is safest and most effective to take Adderall without caffeine.
It’s a bit like what happens when you drink a small light beer and a large glass of whiskey together. You probably won’t notice the caffeine very much.
