It depends on what you’re looking for. Caribou has more espresso in their drinks. Their shots pull at 1.5oz compared to Starbucks which is only 1oz. Caribou had a 2, 2, 3 shot order for their small, med, larges; while Starbucks is 1, 2, 2.
I prefer Caribous milk chocolate mocha in the winter because their milk and dark chocolate are superior to Starbuck, and Starbucks doesnt carry milk chocolate; plus Caribou steams chocolate chips in milk which makes their mocha drinks creamy.
However, I love the white chocolate from Starbucks because it’s pure sugar and not real, so when I go there I get an iced quad, blonde espresso with white chocolate. Their blonde espresso is hands down better than their plain espresso.
I think Starbucks does a better job having multiple food choices though. Being able to get your breakfast and lunch (through their paninis and bistro boxes) puts Starbucks over on Caribou.
In the end, they both give too many options for drinks, they both cost a lot of money, and their blended drinks are diabetes in a cup.
Caribou has a little bit more of a cozy feel and are less of a fast food restaurant. When I was really into sweeter drinks, I preferred their options.
I have tried Caribou, in Minnesota and in South Dakota. Caribou is much better but Starbucks has more variety and their Matcha iced latte is good.
Starbucks coffee, has a burnt taste where as Caribou is smooth and tasty. Finding any place in South Dakota that serves espresso is difficult but Sioux Falls has some decent places. Most of the diners serve that folgers with those chemically “enhanced” powdered creamer…I just drink it and get really sad.
