Can an 11 year old drink coffee? Occasionally, yes, but on a regular basis,no. If you rely on the stimulus effect coffee has you can become addicted to it. Besides being a stimulant it will also be a diuretic. A diuretic makes you urinate more often. Anything with caffeine, whether it’s pop, tea or coffee is a diuretic. Coffee can be addictive because of the caffeine and lead to dehydration. This can lead to kidney stones. You’re not retaining enough fluids to get rid of uric acid in your kidneys. There are better natural stimulants. You can become jittery and have problems sleeping with coffee. Like my brother in law who drinks pots of it, you can land up in the hospital because of drinking too much. Moderation is the key to anything that is caffeinated. If you want a better pick me up, try putting magnesium powder(CALM) into hot water according to the directions. I tried a sample of this and 15 minutes later I was more alert than I was all week, even with coffee. Your body needs magnesium and calcium. Coffee interferes with the uptake or absorption of calcium. Calcium shrinks your blood vessels so when you cut yourself, it helps you to clot faster. Magnesium does the direct opposite, it opens up your blood vessels. This gets rid of the debris after an injury. If you body can’t find it in your blood it looks elsewhere, your bones. Calcium and magnesium are your bodies main things that regulate your body. Look up what they do online. Also note , peoples heart medication has magnesium in them. It opens up your blood flow. Increase your blood flow and nutrients are metabolized faster , toxic waste in your system gets eliminated faster. The powdered form that I took foams up in hot water. It reminded me of the stuff bubbling up with GRANDPA in THE MUNSTERS. It’s probably what they used. It also comes with calcium, too. CALM WITH CALCIUM. Because it dissolves in hot water it doesn’t have to be broken down like the pill form version. That’s why it worked so fast. Do not overdo it though. The bottle had a caution on it(diarrhea).

Mine asked at that age, too. I didn’t say, “No”. I suggested they save coffee for those times when they really needed it. If they made it a habit, they’d have to have it every morning just to feel normal & it wouldn’t provide an extra boost when they needed it. If you want to sip lattes to fit in, I recommend decaf. I reminded them also that caffeine lasts around 5 hours so if they drank it after 5 pm, it would be hard to sleep. They mostly took my advice & it worked well.
Around that age kids NEED to have more control over their lives than when they were young. They’re learning to make adult decisions & that involves making them, analyzing the results & making adjustments. If coffee is their worst vice, congratulations. As a parent, you win!·
I was 9 when I was first allowed a cup of milky coffee. I tried desperately to like it because my parents drank it – I’d probably have one cup of it a day… in the end I gave up trying to like it though because I just couldn’t stomach it (still can’t.)
What I’m saying though is why shouldn’t they be allowed? It’s all about being responsible as an adult supervising them. Should an eleven year old be allowed to eat chocolate? Yes. Should they be allowed to eat 60 bars of chocolate? No. Same applies to coffee in my opinion. It’s all about moderation.
Ask your child’s pediatrician. At 11 years old, stimulants (caffeine) and depressants (alcohol) along with any other recreational drugs are bad for development.
Probably not it will make them hyper. I grew up in England where weak tea is the staple drink from three years of age, I never had coffee until I was eighteen and I still only have one cup in the mornings, never in the evening or I struggle to go to sleep. Tea does have caffeine in it but nowhere near as much as coffee.
