Not just countries, taste may vary between regions. In my country, Indonesia, almost every island grow their own coffee, all produce different taste/flavor profile.
Yes. If you brew it properly, you can surely taste the difference between a lot of different varieties. Columbian, for example, is light and has a fruity flavor, while something like Ethiopean or Sumatran have much deeper darker flavors.
Roast also makes a huge difference. Lighter roasts are fruitier, while dark roasts are sweeter.
Oh yes. A big difference, and not just compared to Colombia. Coffee taste can differ by region, bean, and roast (among other things, like acidity, etc…).
Generally speaking, a lighter roast (when u lightly roast the raw coffee bean) would preserve more notes of the region where it was grown, while a darker roast would bring up the roast taste, not so much the region.
Many other factors can change the final taste of coffee, but there is a big difference in taste variations across the region.
Coffee and tobacco are both very much influenced by growing conditions. In the case of Columbian coffee, the taste is generally (to me at least) a bit sweeter and slightly more acidic. It should be noted that there are differences in the Coffees grown in Columbia due to soil elevation and other factors. in general, if the coffee is labeled Columbian Supremo it’s very good quality.
Only when you drink coffee with little or no cream+sugar will you taste differences in coffee varietals. At least, that’s how it works for me. Taste differences are not apparent in French roast or anything darker than French. If you wish to taste the unique flavors of each coffee varietal, try Medium or Medium Dark roasts.
