My question is just why does someone buy that cheap crapola and then try to doctor it up? You can add a drop or two of vanilla, see what that does. Or a tiny, tiny pinch of baking soda. However, I highly recommend getting the good stuff in the first place 🙂
You’ve got one thing right – not wanting to buy expensive coffee powder. No matter how expensive it is, it will still be no good. If you are willing to spend more, go for beans. Freshly brewed is always better. Almost always, actually. Old ground coffee can be quite bad.
As for instant coffee, just bear and grin. Smother it with milk or non-dairy creamer can hide the unpleasantness quite a bit. It will still be no good but tolerable.
Just add a teaspoon or 2 of sugar & some cream to balance out any bitterness 😋 Another grand idea is adding a splash of rum❤️☕Oh 👍 Yeah😋
Add a scant pinch of salt to the coffee.
Instant coffee (coffee powder) is always bitter. There just isn’t a really good product out there. It’s because the process of drying out the coffee to a powder fundamentally destroys the coffee. All the good aroma compounds and flavors die when dried out. Sorry I don’t have better news, but the only way to get good coffee is to brew it fresh from grounds (and freshly ground beans are the best).
You could try making a paste out of the instant coffee and milk before adding the hot water. This sometimes helps relieve the burnt taste, but the truth of the matter is that cheap instant will almost always be bitter, especially if it has chicory blended in.

There are dozen of some other instant coffee which tastes better than thye one you tasted. o Only the recommendations here is try adding sugar if you are not a diabetic and some milk to it.
Instant coffee is not always bitter, however the ones you’ve tried may taste bitter to you. There are literally dozens of kinds of instant coffee granules available out there, some will taste bitter to you however many will taste fine. Make sure that you stick to well known makes not cheaper ‘own brands’ and avoid coffee marked as ‘extra roast’, ‘dark roast’ etc, they will likely be bitter. You could of course also try varying the amount of coffee you put in the cup, that may make a difference for you, the amount recommended on labels is often too much for people who don’t like strong bitter coffee.
When I had start drinking decaffeinated coffee I had to try 6 or 7 different makes before finding one I liked, Kenco Milicano Decaff.
Little known secret: maple syrup kills the bitterness in coffee. If you get a particularly bitter cup, substitute pure maple syrup for some or all of whatever sweetener you use and poof, less bitterness! If you drink your coffee black then you are screwed. B^(
The most common complaint with instant coffee is the bitter, sour taste. Some folk love this flavor, but if you don’t, we have a hack to smoothen the bitter taste. Add some cold water to the coffee granules and gently stir them before emptying the contents into the hot water.
No, sorry. Instant coffee is one of those things that you keep just in case of an apocalypse. You can keep it in your bug-out bag along with water treatment tablets and the first-aid kit.
