  1. If you mean “did history leave the t-pod behind” … yes.
I am not sure about the notion of [superior quality that was out marketed / out done in terms of delivering content] that is inherent in that metaphor.
In a quick search of single serve coffee systems it is tough to find anyone’s product that doesn’t go to the trouble to mention it is compatible with kuerig k-cups.

  2. Yes. The Tassimo the Betamax coffeemaker makes only one single coffee serving. If your household and you don’t drink too much coffee, this device might be handy. This device is also helpful when you want to brew some tea and not coffee.
But it also has some downsides. One of them is the size of the device. It takes too much space to make one single coffee serving. A French press takes less space on your kitchen counters if you need to make more than one cup of coffee. You can check it yourself by clicking on https://www.amazon.com/French-Double-Wall-Stainless-Mirror-Finish/dp/B00MMQOZ1U and checking out the dimensions of the item.

Besides, for a French press, you can use any sort of coffee and make various coffee drinks. You don’t need to get special capsules or tables. Finally, a French press is a solo suitable for brewing tea.

  3. No. Betamax essentially died because Sony wanted to control the production from the bottom to the top, forbidding other companies to produce Betamax too. Then VHS has been invented, other companies were allowed to produce VHS and most important, the recording time of VHS was longer.
Tassimo allows a lot of companies to produce many kind of coffee, without a lot of restrictions. So, no links between Betamax and Tassimo.

  4. Yes.
Another great example of a superior product that lost to a competitor with a better channel strategy and better marketing.
Tassimo coffee makers were made by top brands like Bosch. The system was better, with a barcode that told the machine about temperature and quantity of water to use in each type of pod.
If you tried coffees like the President’s choice , it was clearly much superior than anything that you can find on a Keurig
