It does usually speed up bowl movements for most people, but if you drink coffee everyday it will start to affect you less and less. I drink coffee almost everyday and if I stopped for a week I could resume drinking it again without any unusual bowl “stuff” going on.
There are a couple of possibilities that come right to mind. A. Your system does not tolerate caffeine. B. Your are sensitive to the acid level of most coffees. Or both A and B.
Does decaf coffee give you the same trouble? If no, drinking decaf may be the solution. You do have to accept the fact that almost no decaf is going to taste as good to you as high-test coffee.
There are low-acid coffees available. You might try one, to see if acid is the culprit, but these very expensive coffees may well not taste right to you.
I used to swill coffee as a teenager and into my early 20’s. Then, one night, out of nowhere, a snall cup of after-dinner coffee, kept both my wife and me awake till 4:00 AM. Disagreeable reactions like this can come on suddenly. G
Good luck. Hope you figure a work-around to drink good coffee.
Have you considered that the creamer you use is the culprit? Is it only with liquid creamer, and not dry? Are you Lactose Intolerant? Does this occur with all flavors of coffee? Does this occur only in the A.M.? Does it occur when anything else is ingested or is coffee the only thing you take? Have you asked your Doctor if any medications you take are contributing to your problem? Are there other things you take that have the same effect? Try to narrow things down a bit for yourself. Good luck finding the problem and fixing it!
It could be the acidity of the coffee. If you naturally have higher stomach acid, it might just run everything through you more quickly.
Try a cold press coffee (not just iced), and see if you have the same result. Cold press has 67% less acid.
I’m sure most coffee shops have it, I know Starbucks (as much as I hate them) makes a good one.
It can. Coffee has caffeine and caffeine is a stimulant. A stimulant can cause diarrhea. You do not say how much coffee you are drinking, so it is hard to determine if this is the cause or something else.
Try cutting back and see if that helps. If not, It may be another reason.
not really but,Caffeine-containing drinks have a laxative potential. More than two or three cups of coffee or tea daily can often cause diarrhea. Withdraw gradually over the course of a few days to avoid headache and try going without for awhile. Decaffeinated drinks may still contain chemicals that can loosen the stools.
thanks.
I agree with below… probably caused by the cream being “off”.
Coffee is a diuretic though, so until you get used to it, you might feel the urge to pee more.
It can, though not so much as a serious diarrhea. But it IS an stimulant that causes bowel movement and increase in transit. It could have more to do with an intolerance to a milk component or some other substance in it, too…
