  1. I started with a blade grinder and still use it, for spices. A burr grinder gives you much better control and doesn’t heat the beans if they are hard roasted. I keep an old burr hand grinder which I set for espresso. So I have three grinders, each with their own job.

  2. The blade grinder is better for chopping nuts which do not have to be the same size to experience their flavor.
Burr grinder provides consistent grounds for your coffee cup.
Hand crank burr grinders are available cheap for as low as $15. They allow you to adjust the grind size and get a quick arm workout in the morning 🙂
Kitchen counter automatic burr grinders start at $30.
Use of a blade grinder for the coffee will result in inconsistent grounds. When you brew these – whether in a French Press, pour over or espresso, there will be inconsistent extraction from the ground, resulting in a clashing of under and over-extracted brew which is unpleasant for the palate.
