Intermittent fasting question: if I put collagen peptides into my morning coffee, about 40 cal, is that enough calories to break my fasted state? If so, how much of an issue would that be for someone new to IF?

  1. You are fasting dirty. I do not. I only drink plain water, while doing intermittent fasting. Consume collagen during your eating window. I do.

  2. I read that 50 calories will break your fast but there are other factors too. The only way to really find out would be to check your blood sugar levels about 30 minute after you’ve consumed it. It’s not just the amount of calories in food that matters as the glycemic index (GI) and glycemic load (GL) will affect your insulin response. Collagen will have a low GI and the amount you consume will probably give a low GL. If you’re new to IF it could be that you are less sensitive to insulin and your response will be lower. In any case why not just consume it later and remove all doubt? If it’s really important to you then get tested.
