  1. They can taste sugar because mother cats milk is like if you put tons of sugar in a glass of cow milk then you drink it that’s what cat milk taste like
I figure we all suck down cow milk why not try some cat milk is a mother dogs milk any different from the over sweet taste of cat milk or is it the same and goat milk is nasty
You could use cat milk in coffee instead of cream and sugar that it’s so sweet

  2. She likely loves the fact that it is milk or cream. Many cats love diary products in general…
EDIT: The biological explanation is that cats are attracted to the fats in dairy, not the sugars.

  3. Both cats and dogs, just like humans have taste buds on thier tounges just no where near as many of them as us. So in short your cat can tell the difference between, sweet, bitter, salty or sour. Just in far less detail then us humans do.

  4. Cats may not taste sweetness (though some people believe their particular cats are the exceptions). But cats can definitely taste fats and proteins, and will seek them out. The cream, milk, and eggs in ice cream are very appealing to kitties.
Some adorable cats also like to eat socially with their favorite humans.
The downside – Sugar is not good for cats. And cow’s milk can give them loose stools. And some ingredients in ice cream, such as coffee and chocolate, can be toxic to cats. Cats can have very different reactions to various foods and spices from what we humans have. Some of what is good for us, is actually dangerous for them. So you want to be very cautious what you feed them.
If your cat is eager to share a treat with you when you have ice cream, you can offer a raw egg yolk (with the white removed), stirred into a small dab of cream or milk. Or give him/her some plain, whole milk yogurt.

  5. It’s sweet and not good for them as many cats are lactose sensitive. It will also contribute to obesity. Why do we like ice cream? It’s yummu and not good for us either.

  6. Cats, being obligate carnivores, don’t need to be able to taste sweet things, so their taste buds which detect sweetness are turned down to the point of being non-functional. They will therefore not deliberately seek out sweet things – and neither will they avoid them.
Ice cream, cheese, and other dairy products contain high quantities of fat, however, and as carnivorous cats adore fats. So your cat is likely seeking the fat content of the ice cream more than the sugar, lol. Just be very very careful giving dairy products to cats, as it can mess with their tummies and give them nasty diarrhea (which, as the cat’s personal staff, will be YOUR responsibility to clean up). Plus, some artificial sweeteners are very dangerous to cats.
There are frozen desserts specially made for our pets (one brand in the US is called Frosty Paws, and I’m sure there are others) that are lactose-free and are made just for them. If you can find them in your area, your cat’s reaction to a little tub of creamy frozen goodness will be YouTube worthy, lol.
The other concern besides health is habits – namely, allowing your cat to eat “people food” because it’s cute will likely lead to the cat becoming rather picky and demanding in its dietary habits, and any cat owner can tell you that once this habit starts, it’s a booger to break. Cats are willful, stubborn, independent critters and a battle of wills can take months or even years to remedy – during which neither of you will be particularly happy with the other. Set boundaries, stick to them consistently, and try not to let your cat nibble your foodies no matter how funny or cute it is. It stops being cute when they scatter their kibble and go after your chicken boobs on the counter.

  7. Because what your cat perceives as “strawberry flavor” is not sweet. If YOU perceived only the “sweet” element yourself, how would you distinguish “strawberry flavor” from anything else sweet? If your “strawberry flavor” is an artificial version, you’d be surprised what chemical compounds go into it. Some of these are likely used in “meat flavoring”, or are also found in meat, and it is those particular chemicals that are triggering your cat’s taste for this stuff.

  8. Your cat loves the dairy and the coolness of ice cream–just make sure you only share non-chocolate ice cream, with no artificial sweeteners.

  9. I have the same doubt all the time. My cat love icecream, sweets, cakes, everything which tastes sweet. I used to believe may be because of fat. But its not like that. He actualy love the sweet foods. Its really confusing to me.
