  1. The good news is that there are a lot of potential suppliers of product. I can provide more information on that one if you need it.
The bad news is that the cost to create & maintain a brand (and compete against much larger and established players) and build distribution is prohibitive in my (somewhat limited) experience (I am thinking primarily of the US here, not sure what is your geography). Others can comment more on that part.

  2. Knowledge and passion is key. Begin with how you want your own coffee to be. What’s the BEST instant cup of Joe for you? Then approach some local cafes and even coffee farmers. Create connections, talk to people, and pitch in your idea. Look for coffee suppliers (like http://www.mycafesupplies.com.au ), roasters, and baristas. Get their take on things, learn from them.
By now, I’ll assume you already have a recipe – the perfect blend that you believe will sweep the nation (or something close, you can dream). I know of several folks who begin in their local towns. Make a few sample batches, sell them to your neighbors and friends, then listen to feedback.
Of course, you may want to look into local regulations about selling this kind of stuff (you don’t want unfriendly competition or break community rules). Setup social media accounts, promote your brand out there, create a website if you must. It will take a while, but if you’re grounded, then nothing is impossible.

  3. Your best bet would be to come up with the recipe you want, and to approach manufacturers about producing your product under your own private label. Setting up your own plant to manufacture a single product would be risky and unsound.

  4. You should start by doing deep research into the existing brands of instant coffee, starting with Starbucks. You must know:
    – Their product positioning
    – Customer profile
    – Distribution strategy
    – Pricing model and costs
    – Estimated volume
That will let you know what you are competing against and if you can build a product with a position that is unique, defensible and that enough customers will buy it to make a profit
