  1. So I’ve had this coffee (if I can find the sticker I’ll add it later) and it’s strong – but it’s nothing crazy… I think the name “death wish” is a bit of misnomer. I’ve also had “cocaine coffee” (it came out years ago, from san fransico) and I wasn’t particularly impressed with that one either lol. (there was no cocaine in it – it was just strong coffee) I think it’s largely dependent on how sensitive you are to caffeine.
It’s good coffee and it makes interesting conversation when you serve it to guests 🙂

  2. Death Wish coffee is just Robusta.

That’s the standard coffee we have in my country and in many others like Vietnam. It’s also what your instant coffee is probably made of, if you’re the type that drinks instant coffee.
That said Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine in them compared to Arabica of the same weight. Which really isn’t much frankly. Robusta is usually 2.7% caffeine, Arabica is 1.5% caffeine.
I don’t think Death Wish coffee is strong or anything. I just think that most Arabica coffees are fruit juice. And third wave coffee lovers definitely brew it like fruit juice, all sour and acidic rather than bold and bitter.
I actually cracks me up how much attention Death Wish coffee has gotten from Third Wave Coffee lovers and how much they praise it as an artisan coffee. Just a few years ago they were all taking a crap on Robusta as an inferior bean.

It just goes to show you how little “coffee experts” actually know about coffee, if they can be tricked by simple marketing gimmicks like this.
