Here are some wooden coffee stirrers. Let’s call them half a cent per stick, since presumably a coffee shop would buy at the bulk price.
Pasta is sold by the pound, not the stick. Here’s whatever restaurant supply outfit came up when I searched, selling spaghetti wholesale for what amounts to 50¢ per pound.
I just counted a pound of spaghetti in my pantry (Yes, really. Guess what’s about to be for dinner.) and came up with 485 full sticks, and some bits and pieces. For the sake of round numbers, call it $10 for 500 pieces, and that’s two cents per, assuming that a pasta stirrer consists of an entire stick of spaghetti. It’s not exactly a big part of the $4.95 any given customer pays for their latte.
Now, if pasta stirrers mean more employee time spent snapping linguine in two, or cleaning up pasta shards, or if somebody with a wheat or gluten allergy didn’t get the memo and sues, well, all bets are off.
