  1. Generally, you want to use a 2:1 or 3:1 ratio of liquid out vs coffee in. So if you were putting 16.5g of ground coffee (espresso is the beverage, the solid bit is just ground coffee), you would want to wind up with 33–40g of espresso when you were done. If you’re getting 60ml, you’re getting too much and your espresso is probably bitter. In theory, you want to grind your coffee finer.

  2. A doppio portafilter will hold 14 grams (if 54mm wide) or 18 grams (58mm wide). Split the coffee liquor into two vessels so that the espresso is of equal strength. Mix your steamed milk in equal measure to the espresso to make two servings of cappuccino. The larger portafilter will make a slightly stronger-tasting beverage.

  3. Single or double shot? – or even triple shot if you like it strong
Using an E61 Head espresso machine – this is the most common commercial or top end domestic machine
    single shot – 15 grams
    double short – 20 grams
    triple shot – 25 grams
Sorry – I couldn’t see your comment so I don’t know if I answered in relation to the correct context

  4. While I do have a commercial grade espresso machine in my home AND I used to teach classes in opening an Espresso Bar I have NEVER measured grams! We fill the singles or doubles to the top and then tamp them down a bit.

  5. All espresso based drinks, properly done, are with a “double shot”. And it depends on your machine. If it’s a standard 58mm portafilter, then it’s 16 to 20g per cappuccino.
You have to brew each separately, obviously.
