  1. You shouldn’t wait. It’s my favorite part of the day, and I usually can’t wait to have my coffee.
It would be very healthy to wait, however, before consuming anything, not just caffeine, because it would prolong your fasting time. Lots of benefits there.
Caffeine makes you poop, and that too, is onather reason why some people don’t wait to consume it, and have it first thing in the morning.

  2. Thep Hand’s answer is mostly correct, assuming you’re drinking coffee for the maximum boost in alertness. I say “mostly correct”, though because caffeine can’t actually tell time.
Assuming a regular (for your own version of “regular”) sleep cycle, your cortisol levels are nearing their highest in the period just after you wake. They peak about an hour later and then go into a decline shortly thereafter. At about two to two-and-a-half hours after you wake, you should be looking to replace that cortisol and be looking for your caffeine “fix”. If you’re trying to time it precisely, good luck with that, but assuming what the science tells us:
    > Wake time = 00:01 hrs
    > Cortisol peaks approx 01:00 hrs
    > Cortisol depleted, max. 02:00
My conclusion using “the other science”, e.g. our knowledge that caffeine takes about 20/25 minutes to actually effect us physically, would be not to wait as long but have your caffeine juice about 90 minutes after waking. The coffee-induced effect will start to take effect just before the point when cortisol is going to be at its natural low.
This, again, assumes you’re drinking for optimal alertness and faux energy. And it also assumes you are somewhat regimented in your chosen sleep cycles. If you work strange hours and different shifts from week to week, the calculations go out the window. The studies done have all been on subjects with a standardized sleep schedule.
It also ignores the psychological or psychosomatic “kick” from that first sip of coffee (or tea) in the morning. Even knowing that it’s illusion and largely a placebo, I just don’t feel like I’m functioning before that first coffee hits my lips about 06:10 every morning (00:10 on the above scale).

  3. Whatthehell of a question!
    dear listen….
Coffee is legal in all 50 states and territories. Unless you’re shooting it in your veins or drinking that shitholedistuging instant, you’re safe and legal to consume this life giving beverage any damn time you can wrap your dirty little grubs around a mug. Have at it. M. IL.

  4. I personally would not care too much about when to have my first coffee but that I do not drink more than is good for me over the period of a day (which I personally did on occasions in the past).

The amount this means for you is hard to say as everybody has an individual reaction to caffeine.

I drink my first cup about 30 minutes after I get up – right after I had my morning walk. That works really good for me. I mostly drink the second one at breakfast or at work. I’m talking about a cup with about 140 ml of coffee. If you are drinking a mug there may be almost double the amount of coffee in there.

  5. we should not drink coffee on empty stomach as it may increase acid production in stomach and also it may increase anxiety..if you want to drink coffee, then 1st, drink lukewarm water on empty stomach and wait for 1 hour..you should drink coffee after eating something to avoid the negative effects..

  6. How long SHOULD you wait, or how long do you wait? Some would say caffeine is bad for you and you should refrain from caffeine entirely. I say if I don’t have my caffeine within 30 minutes I’m not a happy camper! I think I’m in the majority!

  7. For me personally, after breakfast, not before. Some people like it first thing to waken up. But the problem is that a hot drink first thing takes the edge of the appetite. Whereas first thing in the morning I need to be loading up on food and energy then finish with coffee.
But different strokes for different folks.

  8. At morning tea time I have read, which is about mid morning. You can get Dandelion and Chicory coffee, a herbal drink for first thing in the morning. I found that a good substitute and it’s good for your liver.

  9. About 80 years in my case. But if you’re a caffeine user then a minute or so, just to come to full consciousness.
Wake up and smell the coffee!

  10. It is believed that the combination of caffeine and high cortisol could make you feel more tired later on, when both the caffeine and the cortisol wear off, she said. She suggested drinking coffee two to three hours after waking up, adding the best times are between 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 and 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

  11. For myself, within the first 5 minutes. I can’t even function or move without my coffee. I’ll have 2 or 3 cups. I leave the house. Head to Dunkin’s and get 2 shots turbo/expresso over ice with a splash of cream only. And I’m good for the day!!!

  12. It’s not a must, if you slept tight and feel ready for the day no need to take coffee. Drink it during the day when your energy got lower.
If you didn’t sleep enough and you feel exhausted, after you woke up drink a glass of water and a while later make a black coffee for yourself and benefit it.

  13. Question should be: ” Should you wait before having your first cup of coffee?” Most people I know get up make coffee and enjoy the first cup. You have to make your own rules for this one.

  14. I don’t think there is a specific time to consume caffeine.
If you use it to wake up, like me, it’s the first thing I go to after waking up. Then I go to the bathroom.
It may take me one minute from the time I roll outta bed to the time I’ve chugged a coffee.
