  2. Actually that is not strictly true, only a small fraction of the water you take in with coffee or tea is lost to extra urine. Moderate drinking of coffee or tea generally has no effect on your hydration.
    Some of the flavour chemicals in coffee are what are known as diuretics and they have the effect of increasing production of urine by the kidneys.
