  1. I’ve spent years on this medication, know how it feels to forget to take it, and I know what it feels like when I take my medication at the wrong time like the question is asking. Therefore,I’ve developed a system.
If I have to work and I need to shower, I take the medication immediately upon waking. I take about 30 minuets in the bathroom, so that’s more than enough time for the medication to settle. I also wait to drink my coffee on the way to work, which is about an hour to an hour and a half after taking it.
If I don’t shower, I still do the same.
On my day off, I still try to take it right away after waking. It’s a bad day if I take it late (after 11;00 am is when I notice).
I keep the medication in the same place, and have a pill container with the days so that I know if I’ve forgotten it or not.
For me, coffee, unless it’s McDonald’s no cream, no sugar iced coffee or their hazelnut black coffee that I can make at home, (no idea why these coffees do anything for me and no others do) I only drink it for pleasure, and not something that can help me to wake up. It isn’t necessary for me to have this immediately upon waking to be able to not be a zombie. I usually am with or without, anyways.

  2. Actually I take mine at night before going to bed. My digestion is complete having eaten 4 hours prior and I’m not going to be eating. My primary knows this and I have had no problems.

  3. You simply wait to eat or drink for an hour. I like to set my alarm for 6am take my levoxyl and pee. Then I go back to bed until time to rise and start my day.
Consider changing your morning routine -maybe take pill then go to shower and/or exercise or work or read then start your breakfast/coffee after the hour has passed. Just takes time to build a new routine and stick to it.

  4. For years I used to wait 30 minutes to an hour before taking my thyroid meds. With the exception of not taking them with any Iron supplements for five years now I no longer do that and take them with my breakfast. It hasn’t made any difference on my blood levels of thyroid free T4 it T4 or my TSH level without any change in dose.

  5. Assuming you don’t eat before bedtime, just take it then. Levothyroxine has a very long duration in the body, so precise timing isn’t critical. (I’ve had patients run out, decide within a few days they didn’t need it, then show up after weeks overtly hypothyroid.)

  6. I keep the pills by the side of my bed, I take it first thing and dont immediately get up. (You know how you might take a while to get out of bed, so the first thing you do is drink water and the pills and struggle to get up. Then, making coffee can take 10 minutes etc.)
If you can be up and have coffee ready to be consumed within 30 minutes… then you my friend, dont sound like you need coffee!
