  1. Pretreat your collar with a commercial product used for stain removal- I really like Oxy Clean (and I promise they are not paying me to say that). Let it soak for a few hours, even overnight, and then wash in cold water. Once the load is finished, don’t put the shirt in the dryer until you have examined it to see if the stain is gone. If it is not, try again, and you can even put the garment outside in the sunshine and that helps take out stains as well.
From now on, pretreat the shirts every time you take them off, and let them sit with the product on them while waiting laundering. I keep a stain remover by the laundry basket, so it is convenient and a reminder to use it.

  2. Sudin, you could wet the collar portion of you shirt and dust it with Vanish or any other good detergent.Scrub well until you watch the stain wearing off. Leave it aside for sometime and then wash the shirt in soap the way you do.

  3. Collar stains or yellow lines around the neckline of collars are significant problems in office shirts of white color or light colors. They should be avoided cautiously instead of removing.
Reason : These stains are difficult to remove. The stains are caused by continuous abrasion and close exposure to sweating (perspiration) and bacteria normally found on the skin, Oils (hair oil also), body lotions, creams, and dirt, etc.
    Precautions :
One can use a napkin/ small piece of fabric of cotton (smaller than handkerchief), Apply talcum powder and avoid body lotions or face creams around the neck.
Do not iron your shirt without washing it. The temperature may increase the stains.
Remedy: Handwashing or prewashing of collars and cuffs area before machne wash.

  4. There are good spot and stain removers available at many grocery stores. Many stain removers are a gel with a brush attached to the bottle. Simply put the stain remover around the inside of the collar and then launder the shirt.
