From working at Starbucks, did you check the roast date that’s printed on the big bags? How fresh is it? I’m talking about the store use beans, not the ones sold on the shelf.
You can check the answer of the people under the question at Quora “how long after roast date is coffee good“
Those beans used behind the counter are fresh, if the baristas care at all. The beans are good for six months in a sealed bag and typically arrive at the store with over 5 months of shelf life yet. Once opened they are good for 5–7 days as long as they are not ground and the baristas typically date them and throw them out by then, if they aren’t used. If the beans expire, the store gets marked down points when they get audited by the Starbucks inspector.
Our beans normally come vaccum sealed in the large bags since its not preground beans last quite awhile till they need to be tossed BEFORE opening it. After opening no matter what the roasting plant date is whether is yesterday or a week ago, theyre good for a week [ground coffee is only good for a few days btw]
The dates on the bags of coffee are usually 3-ish months out when they arrive at the store. We don’t pay a huge amount of attention to these dates because a go through so many five pounds bags of coffee beans.
I typically check the dates when I grab coffee off the shelf and we have a lot of bags of that particular bean and the bags are in disarray. I do this to make sure I’m following FIFO procedure.
But, usually, whoever stocks the backstock is in charge of FIFO not the person grabbing the beans.
Once the bag is opened the beans are put in a clean plexi container and dated for seven days. It doesn’t matter that the bag was dated May 2. If it’s January 18, they can’t be used after January 25.
And, frankly, unless someone opened some beans and squirreled them away and forgot about them, there won’t be any beans Jeff to use by January 25.
Coffee beans aren’t the Starbucks product we most have to worry about expiring.
