  1. I’m seeing another answer that says blonde roast is not as caffeinated. This isn’t true.
Because blonde roast is a lighter flavor and many often think of it as ‘watered down’, it is a common misconception that is has less caffeine. In reality it’s the opposite. When roasting coffee for a blonde roast, the coffee bean is roasted for a shorter amount of time, which actually makes the bean more caffeinated than a dark roast, such as Sumatra or Italian roast.
The blonde espresso Starbucks sells is more caffeinated than the regular espresso. When making a drip coffee, Starbucks has us use a smaller scoop to measure our blonde roast coffee because they wants the caffeine amount to stay the same in drip coffees.
I learned this while going through coffee master training, and you can check the Starbucks website for my sources 🙂

  2. It taste like dish water to me, but yes, less roast time generally means less “burnt” as you put it.
The common misconception is dark roast means more caffeine, which is exactly opposite from reality. Longer roasting time removes more caffeine, therefore “blonde” roast contain more caffeine, not less.

  3. Ha you’re funny. The blonde roast is a light to medium roast (city roast up to full city) so on the starbucks graph it’s low on the roast scale compared to the majority of their coffees.
Lighter roasts contain more caffeine than dark roasts and more residual sugars.

  4. The normal espresso doesn’t taste burnt unless the barista is pulling the shot too short, too long, or waiting more than 5 seconds to add flavoring or milk, water, etc. So if your regular espresso tastes burnt, this is why and there will not be a difference in “burnt-ness” if this is the case.
Blonde roasts of any kind if they are truly blonde/white, have more caffeine than regular espresso
