  1. Chocolate does contain caffeine, so yes, it can keep you awake. I’ve never had a problem with it myself. I feel like you would have to eat a great deal of it to be a problem. If you have trouble falling alseep, I recommend not eating chocolate close to bedtime just to be safe, however.
Just a tidbit of information; white chocolate has almost no caffeine. So, it is a an optional substitute.
    Hope this is helpful!

  2. Chocolate does contain caffeine, although not as much as in coffee. Unless you are eating it in mass quantities, I don’t believe chocolate would keep you awake.

  3. I do tend to eat dark chocolate before I go to bed, and whilst this seems weird as obviously it has caffeine in. However, I have done some research on the effects of dark chocolate and actually it does increase your serotonin levels, help your muscles relax and in turn does promote good sleep.
If you ate milk or white chocolate, it would likely have different effects due to the high amounts of sugar. The excess sugar would likely cause nightmares and could actually lead to poor sleep because of the sugar crash. Sugar does cause hyperactivity and after the effects have worn off, you can be left feeling fatigue.
You could head for dark chocolate to energise you, however, if energy is what you want, you may be best of heading …

  4. Actually good quality chocolate does quite the opposite. If you like to have a bite of chocolate before bed time, avoid milk or white chocolate. They have higher sugar content along with other ingredients that will “buzz” your brain and prevent you from falling a sleep. On the other hand, 70%+ dark chocolate made without added sugar or artificial ingredients will calm you down and relax your stomach.

  5. Yes. Chocolate keeps me awake.
Chocolate contains theobromine — which is similar to caffeine. Chocolate also contains a small amount of caffeine.

  6. Theobromine is an ingredient in chocolate that contains caffeine. If you consume a lot of chocolate or if you are sensitive to caffeine, yes, it can keep you awake. The darker the chocolate, the more theobromine it contains. But again, if you’re not overly sensitive to caffeine, you would need to consume a lot of dark chocolate for it to affect your sleep.
