  1. No not in and of itself. It’s ‘s basically a chemical compound in drinks and foods either occurring naturally or artificially and depending upon what foods and beverages they are in those may contain calories. Caffeine actually acts as a stimulant and may increase the metabolism.

  2. It’s not that there are no “calories” in caffeine, it’s that the net effect on the metabolism is to burn calories, although that there is so little of it, relative to fats, sugars, and carbohydrates in your diet, that the calories are almost unmeasurable. Caffeine passes out of your digestive tract into a vein that carries it to the liver. In the liver, it is broken down into three other chemicals that give it its effects. The process of “activating” the caffeine takes energy rather than generating energy. However, the amount of energy required by the liver to do this is very small, less than a calorie. When caffeine’s activated products get into circulation, however, the body burns more calories–but those aren’t in the caffeine itself.

  3. Coffee is one of the most widely consumed beverages in the world, in large part due to its caffeine content. While plain coffee can provide a boost of energy, it contains almost no calories.

  4. Calories derive from either Proteins, Carbohydrates (or Carbs), Fats or Alcohol.
    1 gram of Protein = 4 Calories
    1 gram of Carbs = 4 calories
    1 gram of Fats = 9 calories
    1 gram of Alcohol = 7 calories.
Where our body needs and converts and extracts nutrients from proteins, carbs & fats according to it’s needs, alcohol only provides ’empty calories’ – calories with no nutritional value.
Caffeine is neither of these and has no calories. Caffeine is a stimulant which works on the Central Nervous System. Using it in moderation (as with most things) carries a lot of benefits.
The human body usually develops a tolerance to caffein after a few weeks of constant use, which means that you will stop feeling it’s effects or will feel them much less. This however can be reset with an abstinence of a couple of weeks.

  5. Hi,
Coffee is a very-low- calorie beverage. In fact, 1 cup (240 ml) of brewed coffee has only 2 calories ( 2 ). However, coffee only contains this minuscule number of calories if you drink it black — without adding sugar, milk, or any other ingredients.
