  1. Over the decades, medical science has not been able to say with any certainty, that caffeine compound GERD disorder.
One way to find out is to experiment with various foods and drinks. I suggest that you make a list of all the foods/beverages you eat/drink with corresponding yes or no. Such a listing may give you an idea of what causes your heartburns and what to avoid.
    God Bless You.

  2. It used to be thought caffeine relaxed the Lower oEsophageal Sphincter exacerbating reflux. However, recent research has cast doubt on that theory.
There is an extra chapter to the online version of the Down With Acid encyclopaedia looking specifically at this question. It may be found here: Down With Acid – Coffee
“The common belief is that coffee, being acidic and containing the drug caffeine may promote or exacerbate acid reflux, particularly as it is often cited by patients experiencing heartburn . However, the balance of research does not appear to support this.”
“An October 1975 study in the New England Journal of Medicine, Gastric acid secretion and lower-esophageal-sphincter pressure in response to coffee and caffeine , … concluded, “These data suggest that clinical recommendations based upon the known gastrointestinal effects of caffeine may bear little relation to the actual observed actions of coffee or decaffeinated coffee . “”

  4. Coffee contains 5 major naturally occurring acids, and some coffee companies say they can cause stomachaches you can avoid by buying their “low-acid” coffees. Darker roasts, including the two new Bulletproof dark roasts, are lower in acid content.
