  1. Coffee goes stale within hours of being brewed. Staling can be delayed by refrigeration and freezing.
Coffee can provide a medium in which bacteria can grow. This can be delayed by refrigeration and freezing as well as through pasteurization.
Coffee can provide a medium for the growth of fungi. This can be delayed by refrigeration and freezing.
In all cases, tightly covering the container hold the coffee will help slow deterioration, but will not stop it. The more exposure to air and light, the more quickly the deterioration occurs.

  2. Yes. At the minimum it begins to take on a burned flavor, or becomes undrinkably strong; at the worst I’ve ever seen, it sits on the coffee maker so long that it actually grows mold and yeast.
That’s just gross, people. Throw out the coffee after a couple of hours and make fresh coffee, and don’t be That Person who leaves it sitting on the Mr Coffee over the long weekend.

  3. If you let it cool, then refrigerate it in a closed container, it will keep for 2 or 3 days. You can make iced coffee. It doesn’t take long, however, for the oils that give it some of the flavour to go a bit rancid. Yuck.

  4. you can keep it chilled for a week but at room temp it WILL go bad, that being said, I have often drank what was in the pot the next day….just like it was. I’m not a coffeee snob, I’ll pretty much drink it in any form, I should probably be a little more discerning, but, eh, why waste the effort when I don’t care?

  5. Yep, it sure does! How long it takes depends on how you store it.
Coffee left out will begin to gather bacteria like any other food/beverage immediately. If you leave a cup out for a few days, you’ll notice mold begin to grow on the surface. Several hours, or even a day should be safe.
If it’s refrigerated you will be safe for at least two weeks, probably more. You will notice the taste and smell change to an acrid vinegar.
If you leave a cup on your desk all day, don’t panic, just drink 🙂
