I went with my family this past winter break, and I had a great experience. Firstly, the line is very long. This shouldn’t discourage you even though it is daunting to see at first because it moves very quickly. You can either stand in the dine-in line or to-go line which generally moves more quickly. The coffee options are chicory coffee or french roast. Both are great in my opinion. Make sure to also order some of their signature beignets! One order is a good portion for one person, about four warm beignets. I’d recommend ordering more! You won’t be able to stop eating. I especially like the pairing of the powdered sugar from the beignets and the coffee.
You cant brag about going to New Orleans without stopping by Cafe Du Monde.
About three years ago, a large group of us , who all met online in a chatroom, decided to have a meet and greet in New Orleans.
Thirty or so of us met at Du Mondes for beignets and coffee. We took the entire outside seating area, and still needed more chairs.
Normally, you line up and place your order. Because there was so many of us, we were waited on. Our servers were gracious and generous with the strong chicory coffee.
It’s one of my favorite memories of the trip.
Thanks for asking; however, I don’t drink Coffee! I go to Cafe du Monde for the beignets, and get the kids hot chocolate or cold chocolate milk. Not normal fare, but a wonderful treat they’ll never forget, just like I’ll always remember trips there as a child.
Coffee at Cafe Du Monde tastes terrible to me because I dislike chicory in my coffee.
The service is often disappointing because the cafe is understaffed.
The donuts are covered with powdered sugar. Meh.
Overrated. Skip it.
I wish the cups were bigger, but the coffee was good and the beignets were to die for!
Born and raised in NOLA. Perfect late night stop after an evening of partying in the Quarter. Just remember to never wear black and never inhale while you’re taking a bite into the deliciousness of the powdered sugar covered beignet.
