  1. I don’t know the scientific answer, but as a coffee drinker, it certainly feels that way. I believe the temperature of the beverage, coupled with the effect of the caffeine cause an increase in heart rate, which in turn, causes an increase in body temperature in the extremities.

  2. No, they do not help to get you warm.. In fact, drinking a hot beverage will tend to draw blood away from the extremities to the core to “cool” the center. When searchers find people suffering from hypothermia, the recommend warm drinks and blankets or massage to draw the blood to the extremities. Frostbite occurs when blood is drawn away from the extremities to conserve warmth in the core and extend life.

  3. It depends on the ambient temperature.
On a hot day, drinking a hot drink will raise your core temperature which in turn will make you sweat which will cool you down. On a cold day, the hot drink will make your hands, core, mouth, and throat slightly warmer, but really not make much of a difference once you are done drinking.
