  1. Look, there are 65 million ‘British people.’ Do you honestly think we all do exactly the same thing?
My wife drinks mostly tea but likes coffee a couple of times a day. I NEVER drink tea, I cannot stand the stuff.

  2. It has nothing to do with being British and everything to do with personal taste. It may come as a surprise but not every British person loves, or even likes, tea! Equally there are many people who dislike coffee.
I hate tea in any and every variation, even the smell of it makes me queasy, my husband is exactly the same. Neither of us ever drinks tea! My mother loved tea and didn’t care much for coffee but she could drink it at a push. My father in law likes both. He prefers coffee at breakfast and after dinner but likes a cup of tea at lunchtime. My mother in law does not really like tea but tolerates it at lunchtime because of FiL. It simply never occurs to her to make both!
In summary: please don’t stereotype us, it doesn’t work.

  3. I have to say that my daily routine matches your question.
I take a wander for my morning flat white at Costa before I start working from home, but then the rest of the day I probably have about 4 or 5 teas. So my personal answer is a yes. When I was working on the office, we would also make coffee throughout the day and I would always partake, but I don’t do this at home.

  4. Despite our reputation as tea drinkers, we Brits actually drink a lot more coffee than tea.
Personally I hardly ever drink coffee, but I am in a minority. I like the taste of good coffee, but it goes straight to my abdomen in the form of a “coffee jag” as one friend calls it. Very useful if you want to induce yourself to g…

  5. There are no rules, although some people may have their own individual rules. I know someone who invariably has one big mug of coffee at breakfast time and drinks herbal or fruit teas for the rest of the day. I know people who drink tea (actual tea, not herbal) all day long, including one person who quite often has an insulated mug with her on her short walk to work. There may be people who like both drinks equally and make more or less random choices every day. There are certainly people (I’m married to one) who don’t like either, and drink mostly water or hot chocolate or fruit juice. Personally I very rarely drink tea, and just switch to decaf coffee in the late afternoon. The point is that although a lot of you in other parts of the world seem to have been taught that all British people are passionately fond of tea, it is in fact much more varied and individual than that.

  6. Britain is a free country. We are free to drink what we want when we want. Of course, if you choose to consume alcohol, there may be repercussions, but that’s on you.

  7. There is no hard and fast rule.
I don’t drink either, and never have. They both taste disgusting.
Some people will tend to have coffee in the morning, costas is very popular, and tea later on, but tea is no longer the main choice of social, non alcoholic drink .

  8. I think it depends on the individual Brit.
I know some Brits who love coffee and only coffee, somd Brits who only drink tea, some who enjoy both.
Personally as an Aussie-Brit, I drink coffee, never had a cup of tea here, not my drink.

I know people who drink tea all the time and some who drink coffee all the time. People drink what they want when they want – there are no rules!

  11. When I have been in the U.K. I have been rather surprised at how much coffee is consumed at all hours. The myth of the British and their tea is no longer holding true. That said, of course tea is consumed!

  12. I don’t drink tea at all so it’s always coffee for me. However, my dad, was a bit of a stickler for such things, always tea with breakfast, coffee at 11, tea at 4 and coffee after dinner.
