Yes. Alcohol consumption can cause gastrointestinal irritation, which can cause stools to contain blood. Old blood appears dark, so this usually indicates bleeding from higher in the gastrointestinal tract, such as the stomach.
Indirectly. Black stool is the result of an ulcer, which can be caused by excessive alcohol consumption.
Yes… it’s called “Melana” or stools that look the color of tar. It tells you that you have an upper digestive tract (stomach, esophagus)… with alcohol abuse can cause stomach bleeding which is an emergency
Yes.. Black stools indicate the presence of digested blood so if you have been eating a lot of rare steak this can cause black stools. If you are taking iron supplements that can make stools black too.
Alcohol damages the liver and interferes with blood clotting mechanisms so when you start bleeding it is difficult to stop.
Alcohol can cause varicose veins inside the intestines and oesophagus to develop these can rupture because of bulky stools and peristalsis.
I think that black poo is often caused by blood. I don’t know the specific alcohol-related clotting phenomena, but it doesn’t matter: please go straight to your doctor or ER, because you shouldn’t have bloody poos.
I know this from first-person experience; I had red, bloody diarrhea at church one night. I made it through choir practice (sitting down), and called the insurance’s nurse line when I got home. While on the phone with a very nice nurse, I started to feel nasueous — again. (I’d almost passed out at supper.) “Yeah, just go to the ER,” he begged. I did.
I was hospitalized for four days. Doctors snaked everything they could everywhere they could: a camera down my throat. A camera up my rear end. A camera further up my rear end. They didn’t find anything. =(
Anyway, please get this treated!!!

If it red wine it is that which is causing it. I have it for up to two days after drinking red wine.
If it is something else you are drinking then no.
There is one question that no other responders asked … have you taken bismuth subsalicylate (brand name Pepto Bismol and others)? Maybe because you overdid alcohol and wanted to sooth your stomach? BISMUTH WILL color your stool BLACK. This is NOT harmful and will pass in 2-3 days.
Does the black look like COFFEE GROUNDS? If yes, get to a doctor quickly. Preferably a gastroenterologist. That is a clear sign of gastric (stomach) bleeding.
I like red wine occasionally. However, if I have too much of it I’ll shit black water the next day. It doesn’t happen with anything else for me and it clears up by the end of the following day, so in that case it’s most likely just the colour of the wine, plus whatever horribleness it has done in my gut overnight that causes it. Red wine does not agree with me, but I do enjoy it, so these days it’s a rare treat and in small amounts. Never to the stage of blackwater backside any more.
If you are getting black poo from any alcohol, or for more than a few hours, then you should take the advice of the other replies and see a doctor ASAP.
Regular black poo is a bad sign. It might or might not be the alcohol causing it but if you have any internal bleeding, alcohol will only make it worse.
Yes. Black stool indicates bleeding somewhere along the digestive tract. It is a serious symptom and should send you to your physician as soon as possible to rule out a life threatening condition
Depending on the ingested amount alcohol can act as a platelet aggregation inhibitor leading to increased chances of internal bleeding. Darker it is the more serious problem it indicates
