  1. It’s completely upto you and your faith. And ,most importantly it depends on the reason of your fasting either related to religious or for weight loss

  2. You can, but I would suggest either a light roast or cold brew for best results. Coffee is an acidic beverage, and for some people, it can affect their stomach when they are doing a fast. I did a 7 day fast once, and only consumed water and coffee on those days, but didn’t know about the acid thing until afterwards. Thankfully, I didn’t experience any adverse affects, but it could happen. a lighter roast tends to contain less acid, as does cold brew. Since I am a dark roast coffee drinker, I would lean on a dark roasted coffee brewed cold over a light roast brewed any way, but that’s me.

Coffee, and caffeine, encourages fatty acids to get mobilized, go to the liver and get converted into Ketones. This gives you more energy from not only the caffeine, but from the more Ketones. This state, referred to as Ketosis, is when your body converts fat to glycogen which can then be used as energy.
Another benefit is that the polyphenols in coffee allow a greater autophagy effect. Autophagy is the bodies way of recycling old dying cells, and one of the main benefits of Intermittent Fasting. For more information on this topic research Intermittent Fasting, Dr. Eric Berg, Dr. Jason Fung, and Thomas Delauer.
