  1. For a small percentage of people, even a tiny amount of caffeine can have drastic effects on sleep. I, unfortunately, fall into that group of people. Even a single cup of coffee in the morning will cause the restfulness of my sleep to be only 70% or less as good if I don’t have any caffeine.
Do yourself a favor and try an experiment. Go at least 7 days without caffeine and monitor your sleep. Compare with the quality of sleep you get when consuming caffeine.

  2. It can if you are very sensitive to caffeine. Some people are. The best way to find out is to stop drinking anything with caffeine in it and see how you feel.

  3. This study indicates that it does. If the halflife of caffeine is 6 hours, then 100mg cup at 8am would be 50mg by 2pm, 25mg by 8pm, and still ~18mg by my 10pm bedtime. 18mg is not insignificant!
This research shows the same – peak reading of 17 goes down to 3 by bedtime (about 18%), and sleep efficiency and time is reduced.
Caffeine intake (200 mg) in the morning affects human sleep and EEG power spectra at night.
Sad sad day! No more coffee!

  4. Unfortunately, the answer is yes . This might be suspected, given caffeine’s half-life, so the actual demonstration isn’t surprising.

I once read an article suggesting the impact of morning coffee on nighttime sleep was more the result of caffeine shifting circadian rhythms than the result of lingering blood levels.

  5. A 2012 study assessed the impact on sleep of caffeine consumption at different times of the day, suggesting that caffeine consumed up to six hours before sleep

    have disruptive effects on sleep.
However of course If you were to have coffee at 9:00am and try to sleep at 9:00pm then that’s double the time for the effects of caffeine to wear off.
So chances are that caffeine consumption (In the form of coffee, in which I assumed you meant) in the morni…

  6. Not really as drinking morning coffee makes you energized. Although it depends on how much caffeine you consume but my guess is that caffeine does get absorbed and assimilated by the body in 5–6 hours. So the window closes at 5–5:30 pm if you sleep any time after 10:30 or 11.

  8. I have coffee every morning and it doesn’t affect my sleep. If you want good rest, you need to stop your caffeine intake by 3pm. That’s what my doctor told me.
