  1. Depends on what you make it with and how you filter it. But yes, it can make you go blind. Some moon shiners used car radiators as distillers, and the older radiators were full of led. Some of those old moonshiners were artist and made some excellent corn squeezing. Some of the families goes back to the 1700’s and the art of making moonshine was passed down from one generation to the next. Used to know a family in Oklahoma whose family has made moonshine from back when they were still in Ireland. Even the big breweries respect them for their product. Also, they are not crooks. They don’t make it to sell, and they only make so much a year. So, getting it is a difficult process and if you do manage to get your hands on it, it cost a bunch or nothing. Old man explained to me, “It’s not about the alcohol content, any fool can distill it till it’s nothing but alcohol. ITs about flavor and smoothness, and texture.”

  2. Going blind from drinking hooch is quite a common thing, we get the saying “blind drunk” due to that fact. It is usually down to the use of Methanol spirit. As little as a quarter of a tea spoon of Methanol alcohol can cause permanent and irreversible blindness.

  3. Yes it can and has done often.
Back in the 1920s, that in fact happened.
Indeed, between 1920 and 1933 tens of thousands suffered paralysis or blindness through the consumption of homemade hooch.
    Hundreds, it is estimated, perished.
So yes it’s true Hooch can kill you, and I’m not sure if you would consider yourself lucky if it ‘only blinded you’.

  4. Dependings on the source and composition of the alcohol; methanol, or methanol alcohol has a highly toxic effect. According to as little as 10 mL of pure methanol, less than a teaspoon-full metabolized into formic acid, can cause permanent blindness through destruction of the eye’s optic nerve.
