    However, many of these mugs may have a low fired on-glaze decorations. Many of these colours are made with lead bisilicate frits.
    So, I would say, it depends.
    Look for mugs that do not have internal decorations. Beautiful pictures on the outer surface of the mugs is okay. Beware of beautifully coloured insides,

  2. If there is lead it is in the coloring not the clay. If the utensil is to be used for food, be cautious. Don’t accept the word of the maker nor seller. There must be an over glaze on the design. Even then I won’t use it for food if there is a design inside.
