  1. The caffeine in coffee could be making you jittery or causing you to feel anxious, as it is a stimulant. Perhaps you are sensitive to caffeine, in which case you should probably avoid it.
Everyone is different, so please don’t think this is not “normal.” If you are sensitive to caffeine, that is your normal; it does not necessarily mean that there is something wrong with you.

  2. Anxiety and caffeine have similar physical effects. It’s possible that you interpreted the effects of the caffeine as being the effects of anxiety, and since anxiety is a state of mind it brought on an actual attack. I know someone who has that reaction to caffeine, and that was the best explanation we could come up with.

  3. Its normal if we have high sensitivity to stress and coffee pushes our buttons, if the right brain where anxiety is generated is already over active then a little stimulation can further activate the right brain. I have my right brain use down to pre-childhood levels with EGMi but my genetic sensitivity to stress is still higher than average, two coffees are limit a man must know his limitations.

  4. The short answer is: no, coffee doesn’t cause anxiety. But, caffeine, in general, may worsen symptoms in people already prone to anxiety. Caffeine increases stress hormones, it can interact with medications you may already be taking for anxiety, is linked to several mental disorders, and robs your brain of nutrients which makes it hard to fight anxiety attacks. Many of these symptoms are similar to a hangover.

  5. Yep! Caffiene drives my anxiety through the roof, and my roommate, who doesn’t have an anxiety disorder, also experiences it when the coffee kicks in. Just ride it out, drink less coffee, or drink it more slowly.
